A company based in Whitesville is bringing the excitement of laser tag to the people of Daviess County and surrounding areas. Green Army Laser Tag offers a unique experience via their mobile operation, which includes a range of laser tag weapons and barriers. They also have plans for a sprawling outdoor arena in Ohio County.

Co-founded by David Thren and his brother Jeff, Green Army Laser Tag was born out of a desire to work together post-retirement. Discussions and research led to the creation of the laser tag business venture, which officially launched on June 1, 2023, with a team of seven board members/shareholders.

David Thren said the company prides itself on offering laser tag games that can be enjoyed by anyone, anywhere, and at almost any time. The company specializes in providing mobility access for events such as birthday parties, family reunions, and more.

The Green Army staff sets up the equipment, monitors the games, and tears it all down once the event concludes.

Currently, the business accommodates up to eight participants, with plans to scale up to 16 players at a time. Their laser tag guns keep track of individual scores. Thren said the headsets and weapons both register hits from any direction.

“No more hiding your sensors with your hand while firing at your enemies,” Thren joked.

He also noted that the weapons are “quite unique” for laser tag.

“There are pistols, shotguns, rifles, machine guns, and a sniper rifle – each with varying range, strength, and rate of fire. And, they sound just like the weapon they are mimicking. The overall fun factor is leveled up with these laser tag weapons,” Thren said.

To create diverse game environments, Green Army Laser Tag offers barriers for rent. These barriers can be set up at the venue according to customer preferences, ranging from a camouflage forest feel to fort-like or concrete compound designs, all constructed using a frame and tarp system.

While Green Army currently operates without a dedicated physical space, they have ambitious plans for the future. The company owns a 12-acre property in Ohio County that Thren said will be developed into an outdoor laser tag arena. He said to think of it as the popular video game, Fortnite, but in real time and with real people.

“Envision a scene where small buildings, cars, and other obstacles create an enhanced field of fun,” he said. “That’s where we’d like to go in addition to our mobile option.”

Thren said after two trial events plus some personal testing with family and friends, everyone has found it “very addicting and enjoyable.”

Thren said the system is adaptable to evening play, and some of their trial run participants preferred it.

Thren said while they want to provide a unique fun experience, he also stressed that there are some safety rules in place.

“Our goal is to let them have fun in an environment that is safe, and free from bullying. Our staff is committed to ensuring our events are free from any unnecessary conflict and making sure that we are centering on just good, clean fun,” he said. “Our goal is to let kids (and grownups) do something enjoyable outdoors. Yes, even older adults have played and enjoyed this.”

The company primarily serves the Daviess and Ohio County areas but has the flexibility to host events in Breckinridge County as well. Green Army aims to operate during evenings and weekends, and customers are encouraged to book at least two weeks in advance to secure their desired event slot.
